The question is; are our convictions truths, or merely opinions? If we see them as truths, how can compromise be possible?
Therefore, in order to compromise, we must sort out what is opinion and what is truth, and whether or not truth is something that we can define. Is truth static, that is; is our truth something we can count on regardless of circumstances? If it is, then how can there be disagreements, unless, of course, someone else’s truth is different from ours! Then, we must question truth itself.
Are there different truths? Perhaps we are deceiving ourselves if we think that truth is a commodity we can capture for ourselves, something not always moving. The truth is; truth is slippery! Perhaps the truth doesn’t exist as a concept, and only exists in the circumstances of each moment.
A blanket disavowal or acceptance of something as a truth cannot react to an immediate situation. What is happening at this very moment will always beg for clear action outside the parameters of concepts and conclusions. If we are shackled by our truths and convictions, by our past conditionings that are no more than our thoughts and opinions, we will never be able to react appropriately. Seeing clearly in each moment, moment to moment, might just be the ultimate truth, but that’s why it’s so elusive; it’s ever changing. You cannot lay a hand on it.
Right action results from seeing each moment clearly, and each moment is different from the last. Therefore, each moment requires its own type of action. Living in the past or considering the future takes us out of the moment and catapults us back or forward into ideas, and ideas are much too slow to react in the immediacy of the moment. Then we find ourselves paralyzed, confused by concepts because thought is always after the fact; only truth is immediately in sync with the fact.
When we are unable to live each moment, laws and rules become necessary. Natural virtue; compassion, honesty, and truthfulness arise in each moment, but when we are not in that moment with them, when we are caught in our mind games of thought and concept, virtue becomes lost. Then we need decrees and commandments, because we are too confused and paralyzed to react from our hearts. Unlawful acts never come from the heart, always from confused minds; minds that are neurotic and obsessed because the criminal mind believes in thought, and believes that thought is the truth, that thought is actually himself or herself, and their actions always follow the dictates of these thoughts.
All thought is dead. Thought happens after the immediacy of each moment and is merely a record – not the creativity of aware beings. Creativity is too alive, too engaged to stop long enough to dwell in the past in thought, which is much too slow. Thought is not only slow, but thought is the past, and the past projected into the future. Therefore, thought is never real, thought is unreal, it distances you from the reality of the moment, even though this is where most of us spend our entire existence; lost in thought.
This explains why compromise and finding the middle ground is so difficult; we are caught in concrete cement jackets of concept and thought without any possibility of a live interchange of immediate experience. We talk at each other instead of with each other, and instead of finding new creative solutions; we fight over things that have happened years ago, never seeing that this is all in the past and that things have changed. We do this because we believe in our thoughts, no different from the criminal, and because of this, we are capable of neurotic activity. It only depends upon how far we are pushed or how much we want things to go our way.
Look at the world; Christians fighting Muslims, Hindus fighting Buddhists, and all because of concrete opinions about who’s ideas are truth, or who will dominate a piece of geography. God forbid that someone who believes other than us would move in next door!
Would the world be a better place without strong religious beliefs that only seem to separate us? I don’t know. Is religion what keeps people in line, or do people keep in line because of a basic human element, a natural virtue that separates us from the animals? Does religion therefore only divide us and cause bloodshed? These are questions that any free thinker should ask, because when we are in the moment, without the burden of the past or fear of the future, none of these concepts exist. In the moment, religion doesn’t exist. Religion is only an afterthought, after the ineffable is touched for a moment.
Touching that which is called God, or Reality, or Universal Truth, or whatever we wish to call it can never be done outside of this precious moment. If we are caught up in our concepts and thoughts, we will never experience the only thing that truly changes lives.
The possibility of this experience belongs to all of us, and if we ever are able to understand this universality, the world will become a more peaceful place. It all begins with each of us finding the middle ground.

nice Americana (it was the first American food we had had the whole time) and exercised our drinking rights one last time with some nice daquiris. Yum.
So we headed to our flight, hopped on, and settled in for the flight. This is where it gets interesting.
So about halfway through the flight, I start to feel a bit chilly. I figured it was the air vent from the seat in front of me, so I tried to bundle up and sleep, but it wouldnapos;t work. As the flight came to an end, I started to feel even worse. Slight stomachache, a bit woozy, more chills...something was up.
We got off the plane, and I knew something was wrong. I figured it was just some air nausea (although I never get sick on flights), but it felt like more than that. The farther I walked through the terminal, the worse it got. As I walked farther, I started to get these intense stomach cramps that felt like a dozen knives twisting and turning in my gut. In other words, it sucked hardcore.
So we get down to Customs, and everyone is far ahead of me. I make it through Immigration, hardly able to stand up, sweating a lot, and feeling like Iapos;m about to pass out. The guy at the desk looks at my Passport, then proceeds to have this brief exchange with me.
Guy: "So, how was your flight?"
Me (Obviously in pain): "Uh...good..."
Guy: "You feeling okay? Are you nauseous?"
Me (Rubbing face, nearly panting): "No...and yes...not so good."
Guy (Stamps my Passport): "Well, Welcome to the U.S."
Welcome home, indeed.
So right after I walk away from the desk, I see Jess waiting for me and looking super concerned. As I walk up, my gag reflex goes into overtime, and I nearly throw up right in the middle of Customs. She gets this super shocked look on her face (I donapos;t blame her), I throw my bags down, and say "Whereapos;s the bathroom?"
I speed walk there, the slight breeze from my brisk pace actually feeling nice, and, of course, the line is atrocious. I nearly pass out. When I made my way out, I couldnapos;t stand anymore. I hunkered down on a nearby bench and just start writhing. My friends, gosh, they must have been freaked, but they were angels to stay there with me. They fetched someone nearby and got a wheelchair for me. So I get on in and the guy speeds me over to the Public Health office, where they proceed to tell me that all they can do for me is give me a bed to lie down on and take my temperature. Nice.
So I continue to writhe, trying not to cry because (in my best "my mom is a nurse, let me try to reason like her" mindest) I knew that crying would cause post-nasal drip, thus going to my stomach and making it hurt more (Gosh, I should be a nurse), then thinking "What the hell, I feel like Iapos;m dying, and all I can do is find reasons NOT to cry?", so I then proceeded to bawl eyes out. It hurt more than I could describe, and it scared the hell out of me because I had NO idea what was going on.
The "nurse" finally asked me if I needed an ambulance. Knowing how expensive they are (despite health insurance, I canapos;t help it--my momapos;s a nurse, like I said, and Iapos;ve been raised not to make a big deal out of little health issues...but this was NO little health issue), I didnapos;t want to, but I finally gave in. It hurt too badly.
So finally the paramedics came, these cute, crazy, older former Chicago firemen, and they wheeled me out on the gurney. In my immense pain, I got some weird gratification about the whole thing. Iapos;d always wondered what it was like to be wheeled out on a gurney and taken in an ambulance. Just curious, I guess.
And then--BOOM Doors fly open and I look around me. AIRPLANES They had seriously pulled through the tarmac and were going to speed away with me in the back, amidst the planes and whatnot. Oh gosh, it felt like a movie. I felt so important (haha)
So they hook me up to the IV and put the mask on my face, and it was so surreal. We finally arrive, and they admit me to the ER...and not long after, the pain subsides. No kidding. That WOULD happen, right? As soon as I get to the place that can help me out, I feel better. Such is life, I guess.
I fall asleep for a bit, and then Jess arrives with her parents. Gosh, I felt so bad to put them through all of that, but they were dolls for putting up with me. After a short stint, they let me go, and we headed to Oapos;Hare again. Why? One of my bags was "lost," of course. Or, so we thought.
I slept through most of this next part on a bench in the airport, but we were under the impression that my bag was stuck in Customs (Jess had retrieved one of them, and it bypassed Customs by going with me in the ambulance...nice) because of the hullabaloo. The people at the airport were no help, and after a long time, we finally headed home, unsure of where my bag was.
It was such a weird night, and half of it was a blur. I couldnapos;t believe how my trip ended, but it didnapos;t spoil my trip at all. AT ALL. Nothing could ruin the time I had.
We woke up bright and early the next day after a wonderful nightapos;s sleep and headed back to Oapos;Hare for my flight to Cleveland. I waited around for a bit and got kind of sad. This was the last leg of my amazing trip. It was nearly over.
Although I love Ohio, flying back to it is never that exciting. I loved seeing my mom, but man...London? You canapos;t really beat it, you know? I just wanted to go back, right away.
We got word on my bag, though. Stuck in London. FIgures, right? Luckily it was returned a week later. Thank God, too. It had all my special souvenirs from the trip, including my Euro clothes. GAH
So, now as I reflect nearly a month and a half later, I want to cry.
I want to cry because I miss London so much. It became such a big part of me in such a short amount of time, and I love it SO much. I want to go back as soon as possible. I want to live there for a while. I just need to see it again.
I want to cry because I had the time of my life there, and I wish I could have that back. Ohio is dull in comparison, plain and simple, and I felt so alive over there. Cheesy? Maybe, but itapos;s true. Spending nearly a month on my own in a foreign place, exploring an environment completely new and exciting...gosh, itapos;s one of those experiences you canapos;t replace.
I want to cry because I miss the friends I made there. Not just London people, but my Beatles buds. We bonded over London, over our immense love for a band thatapos;s changed our lives. I canapos;t explain that to other people, but they know what I mean. The times we had over there are some of the best Iapos;ve ever had, and I feel so close to them and I miss them dearly.
I want to cry because I feel like a part of me is missing and that it wonapos;t be whole until Iapos;m there again. Iapos;m not kidding, either. Iapos;ve dreamed of London since I was 6. Iapos;ve wanted to go there, live there, BE there for so long, and to have it for such a short amount of time and have it taken away again man, as lucky as I was to go, it almost seems unfair to have something so wonderful be put in front of me and then be gone the next minute.
I want to cry, too, because of how lucky I was to go. Iapos;m so HAPPY that I was able to spend so much time there, learn so much there, LIVE so much there. It was the best time of my life, hands down, and I feel privileged to have seen the places Iapos;ve seen, learned the things Iapos;ve learned, and met the people I met there.
Oh, London. Oh, Liverpool. I love you a lot, and I hope to make it back someday soon.
And I love the Beatles, too. More than ever.

The addiction is always stronger than the desire to quit. But, it can be done. I did it. I have been sober for thirteen years. I got tired of blackouts and hangovers and acting like someone Im not when Im without alcohol. I knew I wanted to stop, but I had no clue how. I went to a twelve step meeting in my church, and kept going every night to different meetings, for four and a half years. If you let the seriously sober men and women help you, you can beat this addiction. You dont have to be afraid to go to meetings, some of the nicest people I have ever met came from inside those rooms. There is a silent camaraderie among fellow drunks, and we are more alike than different. There is a humbleness and an honesty that goes with trying to quit an addiction, and we all shared it. Its the only place you can get your own sponsor who will work the steps with you, and share their experiences, hopes and dreams. They are usually men and women who have been in the program for a while, and can help you with the skills they learned, and turn around and teach you.
Warning signs of alcoholism may vary form person to person. Usually though these warning signs will be obvious. The following list outlines some of these signs. - misses a lot of work or school - losses interest in family, friends or activities - depression - drinking to cope with any problem - insomnia - being intoxicated often - moody - drinking related health problems These are some of the noticeable warning signs. More serious behaviors can also serve as a wake-up call. Risky behavior like drinking and driving should be taken seriously. At the very least stop drinking 4 - 6 hours before going to bed. This grace period will allow your body a chance to for the effects of the alcohol to wear off and reduce the effects that it may have on your sleeping, helping you to sleep without snoring.Sedatives such as sleeping pills behave much in the same way as alcohol, and amplify the affect if you take them while drinking, causing your body to relax its muscles and inducing many of the same symptoms as alcohol. When you snore, you not only do you hurt yourself - studies have shown that a spouse, or significant other, can lose up to an hour of sleep per night. Causing them not only to be in the morning, but potentially destroying your relationship. So, dont just do it for yourself - do it for your loved one!
Different types of rehabilitation centers cater to different types of needs. You will have to decide what kind of rehab program and center you want to work with in order to aid alcohol recovery. Most alcohol rehab centers offer both inpatient and outpatient facilities, and your doctor should be able to advise you on the best kind of treatment for you. Outpatient alcohol rehab treatment is similar to any other kind of outpatient treatment, where the patient has to go and consult the doctor and get medications while living outside medical premises. In case you plan to go in for outpatient alcohol recovery and treatment, then you will be required to report to your rehab center for help, support, guidance and medication while carrying on with your normal life. On the other hand, if your doctor advises inpatient treatment, then you will have to get yourself admitted to the alcohol rehab center for a certain period of time for alcohol recovery and treatment. You will be monitored throughout the day and night and any withdrawal symptoms that you have will be treated then and there.
Fetal Alcohol Effects or FAE causes fewer problems but the issues are still serious. Children born with FAE may face a lifetime of handicaps that will limit their potential. These children often need special care throughout their lifetimes. If this is not enough to convince you that drinking alcohol can be dangerous to an unborn baby, here are some other possibilities. A baby affected by alcohol may have a small body size and weight. He may develop at a slower rate and have problems catching up to other children his age. He may be born with a deformed sternum and ribs. A curved spine and hip dislocations may be present as well as missing, bent, fused or webbed fingers or toes. He may have limited movement in his joints and small eye openings. Babies who have mothers who drink alcohol during pregnancy may be born with facial abnormalities, small jaws, thin upper lips and short, upturned noses. They may be nearsighted or have drooping eyelids. The ears are sometimes low-set or poorly formed.
Another good thing to list is the prevention of alcohol related problems such as liver, stomach and nervous system problems. If you already have some of these problems associated with your alcohol consumption then you should list them. Pregnancy and the side effects on the baby is another good reason to list. Also interaction of alcohol with medications can be listed. For younger individuals you can include the reasons of growth and development. You can have an area of relationship and work related reasons. These can include being able to attend an upcoming event, reducing conflicts at home or work and increasing your ability to handle responsibilities at work or home. You may also want to list legal reasons such as driving under the influence. You should list these if your alcohol dependence puts you at risk of one of these problems. Alcohol dependence is another thing you can add. This is important if you have a family history of alcohol abuse or if you started drinking at the age of fifteen or younger.
Alcoholism is the inability to control or ignore a strong craving for alcohol. People suffering from alcoholism often find that they need the aid of alcohol to feel good or normal. They often crave alcohol, but this craving is much stronger than the occasional craving people have for certain foods. The craving for alcohol experienced by those suffering from alcoholism is often so severe that the individual feels they need alcohol as if it were food or water. They do not feel they can go a day, or in some extreme cases, an hour, without consuming alcohol. Alcoholism is not characterized by the type of alcohol consumed or how much alcohol is needed to satisfy the craving. Alcoholism is characterized mostly by the loss of control. Alcoholics often build up a tolerance to alcohol over time. This means they need more and more alcohol to satisfy their need for it. As they consume more and more alcohol, serious health problems manifest themselves. Alcoholism also affects the sufferer psychologically, as well as physically.

To me, a place that has a name referencing pool and billiards, for instance, Billiards Emporium, Bit OBilliards or the Billiard Room and has six or more billiards tables is a Billiards Parlor. When I moved here to Pueblo, Colorado over a year ago I saw a place called The Side Pocket, it had a huge banner announcing Saturday Pool Tournaments. So of course one Saturday I went down and joined in the tournament to check it out and also check out the action.
Low and behold there was already one person there who knew my name cause we played together on a team in a pool league 25 years ago! What a small world. It was very laid back and the people were friendly and serious pool players. Most of them, I noticed, didnt drink alcohol right away but waited until the tournament was about half way through before partaking. They were very good about going over the particular billiards rules and patient with anyone not familiar with them. But, it was definitely a competitive atmosphere where people are there to put there best skills to the test and not to just get drunk and play pool. Although a good time is had by all because were doing one of our most favorite things, playing pool.
In summary, its a place where the sights, sounds and people are familiar and welcoming. The sight of the billiards tables all lined up in rows, the sound of the breaking of the pool balls, and everyone greeting each other and exchanging tips and tricks and joking around and razzing each other about past blunders or recalling past victories and amazing shots. The interaction among billiards pool players is really cool and I am really glad to be one of them! After going a few times I noticed that just like most places, the people there all know each other and now they know me too, which makes it my favorite Billiards Parlor.

How did the 2008 BCA (Billiards Congress of America) National 8 Ball Pool Tournament turn out for me?
Ive been back in town 4 days, Im about caught up with my work load and Im ready to spill the beans about the Vegas Pool Tournament.
I must confess that this was my worst performance ever in Vegas where the singles competition is concerned. This is the first time since the tournament was held in Denver which was late eighties (1988 or 1989), that I was 2 and out of the National tournament. (The Denver Nationals was my first major tournament 20 years back)
This year it was not because I played 2 bad dudes who ran out on me endlessly. Its because I did not prepare for this tournament in the proper manner and my game was not anywhere near up to par. I did run racks in both of my matches, so I wasnt totally asleep. On the other side of the coin, I missed a couple eight balls and general position on several shots. I gave my two opponents enough opportunities to make them look good.
Ill be writing some future posts about the individual matches and there will be some cool content on the mental aspects of the game there as well. Stay tuned to this Blog Channel.
