Jordan had Pippen, Carmelo had Gerry McNamara, and Ronnie Fields had Kevin Garnett (not the other way around). On every level of ball, legit two-man tandems have done work and brought home championships, more so than any single superstar trying to carry the load himself (i.e. LeBron).
This upcoming season there will be some big-time duos in the high school ranks. Perhaps the most notable right now is in Tacoma, Wash., where 2009 point guard Abdul Gaddy and two-guard Avery Bradley coming off a co-MVP showing at last weekends Nike Global Challenge play together in the same backcourt at Bellarmine Prep. Rumor has it the two are looking to play their college ball together.
But down in North Carolina, Word of God Christian could top the Gaddy/Bradley tandem with a recent transfer of their own, arguably the top player in the 2011 class, who will now be teaming up with arguably the best player in the 2009 class.
So who are the best two-man tandems in the country.

In my debut interview for HockeyPrimeTime.com, I sit down with Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne to talk some hockey.

Neil Bristow - You made your NHL debut Dec.15th 2005. Can you share with us a little of what that was like? What was going through your mind at that time?

Pekka Rinne - It was something that I had always been dreaming of. At that time both Tomas Vokoun and Chris Mason were hurt and I got the call. Everything happened pretty fast and I didn`t have time to stress about the game, we won the game and it was just amazing experience I'll remember for rest of my life.

Neil Bristow -You played with Karpat Oulu (FNL)before coming over to North America. Is playing goalie over here different than in Finland? If so, why? And did you have to make adjustments to your game at all?

Pekka Rinne - The game is little different in Finland mostly because of the bigger ice surface.Players have more time to use their skills. In North America game is more north-south style of play. That`s why I had to change my game more aggressive to challenge the shooter and cut down the angles. I really like the North American style of game.

Neil Bristow - What are some of your goals this year coming in to Camp in Nashville?

Pekka Rinne - My goal is to have a good summer and strong training camp and make the team. Also prove that I can play in NHL and that I belong there.

Neil Bristow - What is your biggest moment so far in your career and why?

Pekka Rinne - When I played in Finland we won two championships in a row 2004 and 2005. It was pretty special cause I played for my hometown team in front of my family and friends. Other great moment was when we made it to Calder Cup finals with Milwaukee on 2006. We had a great team but unfortunately we came short and Hershey won the Cup.

Neil Bristow - With players like Jaromir Jagr going over to play in the Kontinental league in Russia for the same money they would make in the NHL, the Russianleague has stated in the past, that they will pay NHL-like salaries for players in their league. Do you see this becoming a realistic problem for the NHL, losing great European talent to Russia?

Pekka Rinne - Maybe in the future, but I don't think it's a problem right now. NHL is such a respected league around the world that every kid in Europe wants to play in NHL someday.

Neil Bristow -Who did you look up to growing up, goaltender wise?

Pekka Rinne - My cousin used to play goalie growing up and he had a big influence on me. He is the biggest reason why I started to play goalie. In NHL I used watch Patrick Roy and John Vanbiesbrouck play when growing up.

Neil Bristow - Who is one player that you have faced before, that you wouldn't want coming in on you in a shootout? And why?

Pekka Rinne -I haven't been involved in single one shootout in NHL, but in AHL I think Darren Haydar is a player that I don`t like to face too many times. I played with him in Milwaukee '06-'07 and you would think that I know his moves, but he's just so smart and skilled player that he reads goalies and forces them to make the first move.

Neil Bristow - The NHL is once again starting the season over in Europe this year with the Lightning and Rangers battling in Prague and the Sens and Pens in Stockholm. What are your thoughts on NHL teams starting a long season over there with all the travel and scheduling? Are you in favour of that?

Pekka Rinne - As a European and knowing European hockey fans I think it's great thing that they are able to see and watch their favorite players and teams. Also it`s a good way to showcase the whole NHL and it`s unbelieveble players. And also for players I think it`s nice to see some new countries and cities. Obviously the schedule is hard but there's more gain than harm, teams playing in Europe.

Neil Bristow - What NHL city that you havent visited yet are you most looking forward to playing in? And why?

Pekka Rinne - Beside Nashville I haven`t visited too many NHL cities, but I really like all Canadian NHL cities because hockey is just so big in Canada. I have to say it`s a privilege to play for Nashville organization we have such a great fans and hockey is getting bigger in South.

Neil Bristow - NHL has thrown around the idea of maybe shrinking the NHL nets or maybe altering goaltenders equipment. What are your thoughts and ideas on that topic?

Pekka Rinne - It's a topic that everybody has different opinion. I think that if people decide to change the size of the nets, would be a mistake. All the records and games played before would lose their meaning and new era of hockey would begin. But I'm fine with altering goalie gear as long as it's safe for goalies.

Neil Bristow - Have you had any embarrassing on- ice moments in your career so far? If so, could you share a story with our readers?

Pekka Rinne - There's couple moments that I try to forget. This one happened when playing in Finland. We played against Ilves Tampere and were leading 3-2, there was only 3 seconds left in the game and I started almost celebrating when somebody just threw the puck to net and it went in off my skate and at the same time buzzer went off. We ended up losing the game in overtime. It was the final game of the regular season and we would have finished first if we would have won that game. I wasn't happy tell you that much. Luckily we were able to win the Finnish Championship that year so I could laugh about it with the guys afterwards.

Neil Bristow - If you had the power to make changes in the NHL game, would you change anything? If so what would you change?

Pekka Rinne - I think NHL have done a great job with some changes in the game last few years. It has made the game faster and more interesting for the fans and also for the players. I don't have any new suggestions, I just try to work on things that I can control. Thanks!!

- His knees and elbows are both double-jointed which allows him far better propulsion than his competitors.

- He has a 32" waist.

- His heart pumps two gallons of blood a minute, twice as much as the average human.

- His amazing and inspirational will to win has him in the pool every day and he burns 4,000 calories per workout.

- So far he's due to earn $150,000 from the United States, who's vowed to give $25,000 to each Olympian for every gold medal they earn.

This guy is already being called the best American Olympian ever, and within a few days he could go down as the greatest Olympian of all time in the world.

He sure has my total respect.



So what if Canada doesn't have any medals? They're bringing back an impressive array of purple ribbons that have "PARTICIPANT" written on them in gold.



Watching the Olympics last night, Cindy said she thinks Bob Costas dyes his hair.

Who cares? He looks great, and as boyish as ever. NBC should dust him off and use him for more things than just Sunday Night Football.

Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza (22) of Venezuela is scheduled to visit Indonesia, among other things, to meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, according to information of the Miss Universe Organization here on Monday.

In the UK TV advertising is measured by BARB, which uses a sample of 5000 households and measures the viewing habits of the occupants, and from that weights the viewing figures up to give the estimated national audience. For a small channel it costs 40,000 a year to be included on the BARB panel.
In the US TV advertising is measured by AC Nielsen, using a sample of 5000 households that have been wired with people meters that track what programme is being watched and who is watching them. Again the viewing figures are weighted up from the sample to give an estimated national audience.
So, the information that gets fed back overnight tells Pepsi or Proctor and Gamble that an estimated say, 5 million people watched CSI, and those people were mainly mid-market males aged 35 - 45. So if you are not included on BARB in the UK or on Nielsen in the US, as far as advertisers, advertising agencies, and specialist media buyers are concerned, you dont exist ! Now, if you are not in the business it may come as a surprise to you to discover that most companys with advertising budgets dont their advertising direct themselves, it is typical for your advertising agency or a specialist media buyer to do the job for them.
Getting into the advertising agencies is bad enough, but when you have to try pitching to a specialist media buying agency that is really hard!! The issue is that media buying agencies have to buy the best advertising campaigns for their clients that they can, and they use BARB and Nielsen ratings as the for doing so. And then they get audited by specialist media auditors who evaluate their media buying performance. So they need to have rock - solid numbers to PROVE they made the right decision.
The other thing to bear in mind is that these people are used to buying advertisements in programmes with audiences in the millions, and even a large independent internet TV station will have trouble getting anywhere near that.
So when you turn up, assuming you get that far, with your streaming stats (which can be, lets be polite, , and are not independently verified, and an audience of, lets say, 10,000 viewers a day, you are most likely to be given 5 minutes and then shown the door !
You also need to consider the true nature of online advertising. How many truly awful players have you seen who are convinced theyre tremendous players and are bursting with confidence? How many losers have you seen who are convinced that theyre just having a run of bad luck? How many DAG (dumb and aggressive) players have you seen at the table convinced theyre the new Gus Hansen? They go through hundreds, even thousands, in just one night. They have a pile of chips which is roughly worth about a tenth of what they paid to get them. They then proceed to tell people how to play. In fact how many poker players have you met who are convinced they are great, or at least very good? The answer is, just about all of them. Some of them are average, some of them are good or very good, a few of them are great, but most of them are awful.
So you have a handful of great players who are super confident, and hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of truly godawful players who are equally as confident. I think you can see the difference. The reason the great players are confident is simply because they have every right to be. Their confidence is based on results. You also have a ton of players who have absolutely no right to be confident at all. In fact they should be just the opposite. What they need is to be honest with themselves. They need to realise how much they need to improve to win. The more realistic people are about their ability, the more chance they have to improve. Confidence should be based on results, not self delusion.
I have seen really young players at the table with a ton of chips. They seem to know a lot about the game, and play with a freedom, that only players who havent experienced the downside of the game, can play. They talk to one another about all their finals tables. They love the game. They live and breathe it. Everything they do seems to earn them chips. They make it look so easy, but six months later they are gone. One ot two may move up in level. but I have rarely seen any of them on tv. Most just disappear, never to return. Why?
First of all, the game is never easy, even for the very best players. Some of the rookie players start with a lot of money or make a lot of money very quickly. For some, the game may seem easy, or be easy for a time. But after this, the cold reality of the game will hit home. Once the luck starts to even out, and these players experience the sort of run you and I know is inevitable, then you will see how good these new players really are. Some will make it. Some learn very quickly about the nature of the game. They will be able to play through the despair and desperation that continually going in with the best of it, but losing will bring. If they can get through that the first time it happens, they are in with a real chance. It is one of the biggest hurdles in any poker players career. Anyone who cant play through this is unlikely to make it big.
I cant. I just cant take it. I know I cant, and I have been honest with myself, and I shall be honest with you in saying I cant. But I can handle it, and that is something different. What I mean by this is, that once things start going bad, I drop down to the lowest levels possible, and start to play very infrequently. This way I protect my bankroll and my sanity. It also means I continue to play poker. Everyone has to deal with it in their own way. I have adapted my poker game to my character, and this is the way I deal with the down side of the game. It means I keep playing because even in the worst years and worst luck, I dont do enough damage to myself psychologically or to my bankroll,  that I can no longer play the game. It also means I am a winner in the long run. It means I will not be a big winner in the long run, but I will, at least, be a winner. It is my way of dealing with the downside. You have to find some way of dealing with it. My advice, for what its worth, is know that running bad is coming, and prepare yourself enough to know how youre going to deal with it, when it hits. I also know enough about the game, to know how much better the top players are. I am realistic about my ability, so I play at a level where I can win a little rather than lose a lot.
One of the most annoying and gut wrenching things when youre running bad, is to see some idiot at the table doing everything wrong and making a boat load of chips. They seem to go in behind on every hand, and yet still win. You start to say to yourself, well maybe if I played like that But this can be very deceptive. This is losing poker. It is so tempting, but dont forget were talking in the long term. Players do get very lucky in the short term. It is part of the game. Thats why good players make money. Thats why you see old and very experienced players still making money at the game. They make money out of people who have this get rich quick attitude. Because for every young hopeful who makes it to a finals table playing like he or she can never fold a hand, or never need to, there are a thousand others who have lost their money very quickly playing like this.
I dont blame anyone who knows they are a really crap player, but wants to make it big, for playing like this. Be honest with yourself here too. If you cant play well, it seems your best hope is to realise this, and play the game like bingo. Throw it all in when behind in a big tourney, suck out a few times, and youre at a finals table. The great thing about the game as it is now is, you may never need to win at the game again. There are sponsors out there who are willing to pay high profile players according to how silly their hat is. Dont forget the sponsors dont care whether you win or not in the long term, they just care about how much tv time you get. This means you could be a truly average, or even very bad, losing player, but still win at poker, because of the money you are picking up from sponsors. As long as you have a gimmick, or wear silly clothes you have a real chance of being an overall winner in a game youre lousy at. Yes, its an expensive long shot. Youll probably lose, but the main thing is to know what you are trying to do and why.
But if you see players continually going in behind and sucking out, try and work out how much they have to spend on playing this way. Think about how many times you have gone in with all your chips as hot favourite. Now think of the times you have lost. Now think of the times you will lose as a big underdog. Frightening isnt it? If it isnt, it should be. Fear is in our psychological makeup for a very good reason. It protects us. It tries to curb our more adventurous and dangerous inclinations. This is present to protect the human race. Just as you need some adventurous spirit, you need some fear and respect for certain situations too. This is an inherent way of protecting you. It doesnt mean you have to play frightened, but you have to use common sense. Use all your skills as a player to try and win. You do this by outplaying your opponent. This really doesnt have to be complicated. You dont need to think at the 3rd or 4th level here. Sometimes it can just be as simple as going in as 70 per cent favourite against your opponents 30 per cent. If you have done this, you have outplayed them.
If youre not very good at the game and know it, but still want to enjoy playing then thats fine too. Just accept that youre not very good and youre playing poker as a hobby. Hobbies cost money. But I think if you accept this, it will cost you less money and heartbreak in the long run. In fact, be realistic at whatever level you play. Most of the class players are always talking about how difficult the game is to master. Theres always something to learn.
